Building links with local secondary schools
Building Plymouth, the council-led partnership with local construction and built environment stakeholders, has been busy heading up a citywide coordination plan under the Constructing Excellence SW ‘Adopt a School’ campaign.
An event held at the National Marine Aquarium in November officially launched the first 11 ‘adoptions’ between construction networks and employers with local secondary schools.
Emma Hewitt, Building Plymouth Skills Co-ordinator, said: “Improving the image of construction and the built environment, raising awareness of the diverse career opportunities, and repositioning construction as a ‘career of choice’ are top priorities for our Building Plymouth partnership.
These aims align perfectly with this ‘Adopt a School’ programme and through collaborative working across construction professional networks and local employers, we will be able to bring innovative ways of showcasing the 180+ career opportunities through tailored Plymouth school engagement plans”.
