“Eggbuckland Community College is delighted to be adopted by Building Plymouth as part of the Constructing Excellence South West Adopt-a-School initiative.

“Building Plymouth has already supported the College with Year 11 Mock Interviews, work experience opportunities and increased employer engagement within the curriculum. We are keen to raise students’ aspirations and for them to recognise the requirements of jobs, both at trade and professional level, within the construction sector. This knowledge increases their motivation to succeed both inside the classroom and beyond. We are looking forward to developing the partnership further to ensure our students and parents are fully aware of the wealth of opportunities, in Plymouth, within this sector.

“Eggbuckland Community College recently took ten Year 8 students to the #STEMFest event at the National Marine Aquarium. The students fully engaged with the activities and employers and upon returning to College they continued with their design of a tank to house the giant squid with some help from Airey & Coles and Ward Williams Associates who visited the College to work with the students. The students certainly had their eyes opened to the different job roles required to design a tank and the considerations required for such a project. As students move towards choosing their GCSE options activities like this will influence their decision making and inspire their future career pathways.”
