The Mayflower Forest – our flagship of the Road to Mayflower project
We are delighted to announce that our flagship of the Road to Mayflower project, the Mayflower Forest, has been chosen as a finalist in the Third Sector Campaign category of this year’s Devon and Plymouth Chamber of Commerce Awards.
h4.The Mayflower Forest – creating a new arrival experience to Plymouth
The Mayflower Forest, as part of the Mayflower 400 celebrations, has delivered a new landscape design which revitalises Marsh Mills as a green gateway and transforms the arrival experience of visitors to Plymouth. in addition it offers significant environmental benefits to the area.
Over 1000 silver birch trees were planted earlier this year to form the forest and an artistic dry riverbed was created using local stone, as a reference to the American landscape that the Pilgrims discovered. The Native Americans used birch trees to make their canoes and shelters and the tree is indigenous to both the UK and North America.
The Mayflower Forest team
Led in partnership by Building Plymouth, The Road to Mayflower team is made up of several leading professionals from the following organisations:
AECOM, AWW, Hoare Lea, Illuminate, Stride Treglown, SWH, Womble Bond Dickinson and YGS Landscapes. The Mayflower Forest would not have been possible without our amazing supporters who donated to our Mayflower Forest crowdfunding campaign.
We look forward to the announcement of the winning campaign.
