Connecting People to Construction Careers: February Drop ins Hosted by Building Plymouth
Throughout February, we hosted a series of employer and partner drop in sessions at Skills Launchpad Plymouth, giving local people the chance to engage directly with construction industry professionals and explore the wide range of careers and training pathways available in the city.
These sessions offered a welcoming, informal space for residents to ask questions, seek guidance, and discover real opportunities across Plymouth’s growing construction sector. Whether visitors were considering a career change, starting out for the first time, or looking to upskill, the drop ins provided personalised support to help them take their next step with confidence.
During the month, we were pleased to welcome:
• Clarion Futures
• Skills Group
• The Focus Training Group
• National Careers Service
• Gwella Contracting Services
Each partner brought valuable insights, from apprenticeship routes and accredited training to employability skills, career planning and live job vacancies within the sector. Their expertise plays a key role in helping local people understand what employers are looking for and how to access the right opportunities.
Gareth, Building Plymouth Coordinator, said: “Having our Building Plymouth partners come into Skills Launchpad makes a real difference. People get the chance to speak directly with employers and training providers, ask questions, and understand what the industry is really looking for. Those conversations can often be the first step towards someone starting a new career.”
These monthly drop ins continue to demonstrate the value of partnership working and the impact of bringing employers and residents together under one roof.
