Recruitment boom for the construction sector: 120 roles needed for major infrastructure project by September
A major recruitment drive is underway this summer as Kier BAM JV looks to fill 120 roles for the next phase of the £300 million 10 Dock project at Devonport Dockyard.
As one of the south west’s largest and most complex infrastructure projects, 10 Dock will deliver a new, state-of-the-art dry dock facility to support the maintenance of the Royal Navy’s Astute-class submarines, playing a vital role in the UK’s long-term defence capability while creating significant opportunities for local people.
Environment and Sustainability Manager for Kier BAM JV said: “this is a unique opportunity to be part of something truly transformational for Plymouth. Whether you’re already working in construction, looking to progress, considering a career change, leaving the armed forces, or just starting out as an apprentice or graduate, 10 Dock offers the chance to be part of a landmark project that will leave a legacy.”
The scale of the build means a wide range of roles are now available, including engineers, site supervisors, BIM and CAD specialists, logistics and admin roles, laboratory technicians, and safety professionals. With construction activity ramping up, the project needs a skilled and diverse workforce ready to take on the challenge.
As work takes place within the secure dockyard, security clearance and eligibility requirements apply. To ensure local people can access these opportunities, Kier BAM JV is working closely with Building Plymouth to connect residents with jobs, training, and support.
David Bayliss, Chair of the Building Plymouth, said: “these are exactly the kind of high-quality, sustainable jobs we want to see local people benefiting from. With such a wide variety of roles available, this is a fantastic opportunity to build a career while contributing to one of the city’s most important projects. Attracting and recruiting talent is one of the key priorities for our sector skills partnership.”
Anyone interested in finding out more about this recruitment drive is invited to attend a free drop-in information event on Tuesday 16 June, between 3pm and 7pm, at Cobourg House on Mayflower Street in the city centre. No booking is required, and the flexible timings mean people can attend around work or other commitments. Representatives from Kier BAM JV, the recruitment teams, training specialists, and Building Plymouth will all be on hand to offer advice and information on how to get involved.
