Ian Williams

Asset management company Ian Williams is one of the UK’s largest independently-owned property services businesses and painting contractors. Operating from 16 locations, with a strong presence in the South West, we are at the forefront of the direct delivery of innovative planned and responsive works across the public and private sectors. Our directly employed teams offer highly skilled and accredited services to clients across the housing, education, retirement living and commercial markets.
Ian Williams has been successfully looking after homes and buildings since 1946 and over the last seven decades, we’ve recognised that it’s our people who continue to define and shape our organisation and sustain growth. Recruitment and development of talent is fundamental to our future success and has led to the creation of the Ian Williams’ Academy which formalises the significant investment we commit.
The Ian Williams’ Academy’s main objective is to ensure that we have a strong talent pool, transfer the skills, expertise and company ethos through the workforce and ensure succession planning. Delivered via The Academy, we’ve committed to making up Apprentices to 10% of our operational workforce at any time and are currently consistently achieving 11%, focusing on recruiting and managing those enrolled on our Apprenticeship and Trainee Surveyor Programmes.
Ian Williams has been recognised by Investors in People as ‘a great place to work’ and The Academy has been described by the CITB as a Best-in-Class approach in addressing severe skills shortages within construction. In 2018, we scooped the National Housing Maintenance Forum Best Apprentice Scheme and were awarded the prestigious PwC ‘Winner of Winners’ in the Training and Personnel category. This year, one of our Academy students won Apprentice of the Year, Great Britain in the CITB Apprenticeship Awards 2019.
As well as delivering award-winning training and support, the achievements of our apprentices are celebrated at our own annual awards ceremony. To coincide with National Apprenticeship Week, our Qualification Celebration Lunch celebrates our company’s apprentice, trainee and staff achievers and recognises the vital contribution they make to the business. The majority of our apprentices and trainees become fully-fledged employees across all areas of our business.
